                                                                 Van Gogh's Wheatfield with Crows

Vincent Van Gogh died on July 29, 1890. This painting was done around 7-10 July 1890 -  3 weeks before he died. It hangs in the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam. It's
one of his most powerful paintings - I studied it for about half an hour when I first saw it; and came back to it on my way out of the museum. I did go back to the museum
a second time

Drew the grid and drew some outlines - of the path; the white glow/clouds and not much else - figured the rest is all in how its painted.  Its all flat brush strokes overlapping each other and not much else. Will need to get in a good rhythm to do this and my feeling is it will go very fast once I start.

Painted the top third or fourth - trying to get the shades of blue/white/black. Will retouch to show pronounced brushstrokes later (I think).

wheatfield 03.jpg

Painted the wheatfield with combination of three shades of yellow/orange - trying to leave pronounced brush strokes/paint on the canvas.

Painted the green paths. Next do the brown with the yellow to finish the paths. Then the crows.

Painted the path and touched up a bit of the area - note;  it's real hard to work with the green - it's too strong and very hard to work in and near the paint. Next do the crows and touch up some of the yellow.

Painted the crows and retouched the field and added red/orange color to the dull brown. Finished Jan 22, 2011.
