Rodadero - Santa Marta, Colombia    Sunset

Rodadero - Santa Marta, Colombia  day-time - slightly different view.

What I want to do - take the curved beach from the second picture and put it into the first - by sort of pulling the island to the extreme left
and pulling the beach a little forward and positioning  the hill left-of-center.  Hmmm .. simply paint the second picture and put the sunset and
the dark colors in - should work! Will try and keep the sun in the middle - have to manipulate nature - ha ha ha -easier said than done.

Santaarta02a4.jpg
Day 1-2: Using a grid, drew the picture and painted the top half of the sky (also painted the top and sides  of the canvas)

Santaarta02a5.jpg
Day 2: Painted some of the yellow (sun) and red colors; realized that, I need to let the blues dry before working the yellow
 and
reds on top of the blue. So, I will paint the second part of the sky (3) and the first part of water(4) next - come back and
finish
the yellow/red(5) and then do the hills(6) and the water(7) followed by the beach(8) and hotel(9).  Numbers refer
to days. So, maximum 9 more days and maybe combining two or more into one session may mean 4 to 7 days more.

Santaarta02a6.jpg
Day 3: Added more black and white and dark blue to make the sky grayer; did the bottom sky lighter; top sea - darker
and the rest of the sea light to dark to light and dark near the shoreline.
(finished parts 3, 4 & 7) next 6, 8, 9 - 5 last
(moved the panels to paint the sides)

Santaarta02a7.jpg
Day 4:  Painted the hills brownish and the beach and the hotel yellowish to give it a lighter shade when everything is painted dark (next).

Santaarta02a8.jpg
Day 5: Painted the far hills - light blue; closer ones darker blue; closest ones Dark Blue with black (there are 4 shades of
blue to be matched with 4  shades of orange/red and then merged into dark gray/black. (Will choose one of those for the
beach  area and do that last as normal.)

Santaarta02a9.jpg
Day 6/7: When I a painted orange and red (over the blue) - it became brownish orange rather than gray - should have done the
whole thing at the same time - using blue, green and red together - fixed it using green, dark blue and black - happy with almost
all but the rightmost panel - also added blue/black on the building. Will finish the third panel mountain and building first and then
 work on the beach area.

Santaarta02a10.jpg
Day 8:  Painted the sky yellowish red/orange - may be too much red in the middle - may retouch it with yellow.

Santaarta02a11.jpg
Day 9: Painted the beach area and retouched the water.  Will add more yellow to the sunny area and finish it off, tomorrow/Friday.

Santaarta02a12.jpg
Day 10: Retouched the sunny area and the water in panel 1.  Will wait another day or two for the third panel to dry before
doing the lights in the buildings and finishing it off.

 Santaarta02a13.jpg
Day 11: Painted the lights in the building and signed. Finished Jan 3, 2012. Click here to see a larger (154KB) picture.
