Gumweed

	Gumweed 4' by 3' (122 cm by 91.5 cm) Painted February 2011
	Gumweed - Bryce Canyon National Park Utah

	Drew a grid and then started drawing - when I was about 80 to 90% done as in the picture above - I discovered a mistake. The grid on the canvas was 10 by 8 or 80 squares. the grid on the photograph was 11 by 8 or 88 squares. Yikes! So, I had to erase everything and redraw the grid - I made a better grid by keeping the 8 by 6 squares in the middle as perfect squares (5 inch by 5 inch) - left 4" on the sides and 3" on the top and bottom.

	Redrew the flower - back to about 80% done. Looks much better, I think.

	Finished drawing and erasing the grid lines. Will do some washes next using green, yellow and brown colors.

	Washes done. Ready to Paint.
	Painted the brown/red back-ground.
	Painted the green back-ground as well as the stems and green petals around the small flower. Will wait for a few days for the green to dry out a bit before starting on the yellow - to avoid running the green in the yellow.
	Painted all the petals (whew - 3 days) and added paint to the middle.
	Painted the petals on the small bud and added more paint to the middle of the main flower; wiped off some of the red and added yellow and brown to give it a better look; will add brown and black spots later on, when its drier and will finish the small bud with some green & black. One more day to finish.
	Yep, took one more small session to finish it all. Finished Feb 28, 2011
