Building an Easel for the Studio

easel01.jpg
Nailed the top piece on the wall - about 67" from the bottom
of the floor to the middle of the board - size about 24" by 8"

Used a level checker to line up the top of the wood piece.

Marked and drilled holes (1,2,3,4) for the hinge in the top piece

studio/easel05.jpg
Nailedhe bottom piece on the wall - about 31" from the bottom
of the floor to the middle of the board
- this is the lowest height I
want to work at. I use a knee pad on one knee if I need to do any
detail painting on the bottom of the canvas
- size of the wood
 board  about  24" by 8"
.  Used a level checker to line up the top
 of the wood piece.

Marked the outline of the hinge in the middle of the back
piece; then marked and rilled the holes and attached
the
hinge with screws.
Back piece size about 4' by 3'.

easel04.jpg
Close-up of the hinge - it hangs on the edge of the back piece.

Attached the shelving brackets to the bottom piece at the
edge with screws - 20 inches apart. Size of bottom piece
4' by 1'

easel08.jpg
Attached the L-shaped brackets to the back piece at the edge
with screws - 20 inches apart.

Close-up of the bracket attached with 2 screws.

easel11.jpg
Lifted the Back piece high in the air (monika held it on top
of her head)and attached the hinge to the top wall piece with
screws - at the pre-marked,  pre-drilled holes.

Close up of the hinge attached to the wall piece.

studio/easel13.jpg
Supporting the back piece on hands (Monika held it) - attached
the bottom piece at the 6" mark using screws to attach the L-shaped
 brackets.
The bottom piece is 6" off the wall creating the angle for
 the canvas to recline.

easel14.jpg
Two L-shaped brackets attached to the bottom piece - thus
attaching the back piece and the bottom piece together. I
marked the spots at 6 and 6 inches from the edge and attached
the hinge so as the board sits between those marks.

Holding the easel againest and up the wall - Attached the
large brackets to the wall piece.

The two large shelves attached to the wall thus securing the back
piece to the wall - creating a slight angle for the canvas to rest.
