Drew the grid and then started drawing the cat; wondering how accurate I have to be to have a nice/vibrant painting. Drew some basic outlines and then started painting. Used two shades of brown to figure out the combination needed to try and get a good  effect. I like the dark shade (Transparent Brown Oxide) - I don't have to use any black to mix in it to create the dark effect. The other shade is also good (Gold Ochre) - I will have to lighten it a bit and darken it a bit hee and there to get a good effct. I think at this point that the painting will turn out OK. Its very complicated because of all the shades of the color on the canyon walls that create this interesting effect. The canyon cut out itself is easy - but that just gives the cat ears effect - the rest is the shades of the canyon walls.

Forgot to take pictures at two previous steps.  The painting is taking shape and the canyon walls seem to be defined enough to create a nice effect. I may have to touch up saome areas - darken or lighted in a few places before its all finished.  Next big step is to add the tree at the bottom right hand side. Maybe another day or two. So, it should be done before xmas.
