Drove
to La Fortuna and stayed near the Arenal
volcano. This is the Arenal Lake that provides a third or more of the
electric power for Costa Rica. |

This
is a picture from out side the hotel room; the
4wd vehicle is the one I rented. The volcano is in the back but covered
for the most part. The weather was overcast and rainy all the time and
I didn't see the volcano, however, the 2nd night I heard a
'boom' and saw some pink lava flowing down - I sat in a chair in the
porch and watched several eruptions and lava flow for the next two
hours. I could hear a muffled eruption at times and lava rocks hitting
rocks several times.

This is a picture
from the hotel's web page taken
from a little behind my room and to the left - there are actually two
volcanoes, one erupts this side and the other - on the back of the
first volcano towards the other side. |

Drove
to Quepos next - this is beach 2 in Manuel Antonio national park. |

There
are a lot of hiking trails in the park and some
of them meet at beach 3, where they have picnic tables and of course
monkeys.

On
one of the hikes I came across these ants carrying pieces of leaves. |

On
another hike, you get to a lookout point where you can see this beach
(not accessible by foot.)
